Win8 shows BIBM allocated as Unallocated

Post by hime3 »

Converted GPT to EMBR.
Made extended partition.
Allocated space to 5 volumes.
Disk Management shows space Unallocated.
Rescan disk. Still unallocated.
File manager does not show partition allocations and names.
OS and file manager always showed BIBM and BING allocations in past years.
Is the issue EMBR and/or Win8.1 nuances?
If so, will consider limiting partitions to 4 (delete WinRe and/or OEM recovery partitions) to change drive type to MBR.
Also, wondering if no mouse, no keyboard issues installing Win7 might relate to EMBR vs MBR.
Image for Windows shows BIBM extended partitions (volumes).

Did you add the Extended Partition to the MBR for the boot item(s)?

The mouse/keyboard issue is usually caused by either the BIOS or lack of the correct drivers. The disk type wouldn't cause it.

Paul
Did not add.
Re-read manual pp 29,30, 31.
My error was to incorrectly recall from past experience that BIBM enabled user to create of an additional MBR slot.
4 partitions in MBR list: Win8; WinRE; BIBM; OEM recovery.
I knew I could Insert the extended partition in place of WinRe or OEM recovery.
I guess having a recovery USB drive neither WinRe or OEM recovery is necessay in MBR or on HD.

BIOS contains no mouse specific item, only USB to enabled/disable.
During one Win7 install attempt, mouse and keyboard functioned a short time, then stopped.
Catch 22 on Win7 installation. No LAN driver and no mouse/keyboard to access drivers downloaded on other PC to USB drive.
Yet to try your suggestion to connect mouse/keyboard to USB3 and USB combinations as you suggested.
Thank you

You probably don't really need the BIBM partition in the Win8 bot item either.
