Can't clone replacement SSD

Post by Sussexlad »

Hi

I've used Ifl for ages, like it and found it totally reliable.
I've just swapped my HD for an SSD and the PC boots and works fine.
However, when I try and boot using the Ifl live CD it says there is no hard drive !
On a normal boot, the setup shows SATA - 0 as PO: Kingston SV300xxxxxxxx
SATA - 1 as DVD-ROM
When using the IFL disc, initially it report, Alert ! Hard disc not found
then after entering setup SATA - 0 says none
SATA - 1 is DVD-ROM
In both cases SATA mode is reported as AHCI

I've now tried Clonezilla and that has apparently worked with no issues - though the image directory looks suspiciously small - but I much prefer the simple Ifl GUI and would like to know why, when the PC boots just fine, Ifl is having this issue.

TIA

If you're not using the latest version of IFL, simply updating to the latest version (currently IFL 2.94) has a reasonable chance of correcting that problem. Registered users can update to the latest version at no cost, by downloading it from the Product Download page here:
https://terabyteunlimited.com/product-download.php

If you still have the problem when using IFL 2.94, please create an IFL report from IFL 2.94, and attach the resulting text file (report.txt) to an email to TeraByte Support at support@terabyteunlimited.com To create an IFL report from IFL (GUI), right click the desktop, select Create Report, and follow the prompts to save the report to a drive or partition. From IFL (CUI), the same thing can be done by selecting Create Report from the Auxiliary Menu. If needed, this KB article covers how to create an IFL report:

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply. I think the answer may be quite simple after-all.

I had always been in the habit of popping in the CD and doing a RESTART and it's always worked fine.
Perhaps it's because the SSD is faster, but I now find that if I do a SHUTDOWN, wait a few seconds and then power-up, Ifl loads OK. :-))

I'll continue trying it over the next few days and if it seems more complicate than that, I'll be back ! Thanks again.
