Domain controller recovery

Post by Voland »

Backup procedure:

1. Domain controller Dc1 was shutdown at 6 pm. Image was taken from hard drive using Terabyte software.
2. Domain controller Dc1 started at 6.15 pm
3. Domain controller Dc2 was shutdown at 6.20 pm. Image was taken from hard drive using Terabyte software.
4. Domain controller Dc2 started at 6.35 pm

Recovery procedure performed in 2 days:

1. Both domain controller were shutdown.
2. Dc2 was recovered from image and started
3. Dc1 was recovered from image and started in 10 min after Dc2

Question:

1. What are chances to encounter "USN rollback" or other issue?
2. Any affect on Exchange 2010 server running on his own box?

Thank you.

For a 5 minute difference, I doubt you'd have an USN rollback issues. If
you let days go by between the systems backup or only recover one then you
could have them since AD has always been a bad design / implementation.
Things may be looking up in server 2012 - they may have fixed that issue
which should have never existed in the first place.

There are also some other things that can be done to prevent it with the
correct service packs and registry injection. We can add those for user
convenience (rather than having to build your own tbscript).

Thanks for the reply.
An when are you going to add that script?
I guess you should think to release a different version of software fro businesses.
It is nice and simple software but need more functionality.
