Moving old hard drive to SSD

Post by TDC999 »

Hello,

my old harddisk shows smart-warnings regarding the read error rate, so i plan to move to a new harddisk and since i'm buying a new hd i want to switch to ssd (crucial m550 512GB) too. The old Harddisk looks as follows:
C: Systempartition
D: Userprofile lays here
E: Datapartion
F: nonexistent letter reserved for mounted true crypt container
H: Datapartion

So my plan was to backup the entire drive tonight ifw 2.91 (don't know when it crashes so i don't want to waste to mch time with updates etc.) and then just restore the backup to the new drive, and then put the new drive into my pc.

Since I'm new to ssd i would welcome any comments or suggestions regarding this plan. Anything to consider in using IFW with a ssd's in my particular scenario?
Edit: Do i need the ChangDisk ID & GUIDS option?

My machine:
Win7 64-bit prof
Standard-Bios (I mean non-uefi)
Truecrypt is used

Greetings!

On backup:

Check details of each partition to know your required restore size and
compact if safe if your ssd is smaller.

Backup "entire drive".

On restore:

Enable the global option to align on 1MiB, Check the box also to assume same
target system.

On restore options (normal restore), choose option to Align to Target. (if
update boot partition option is available, check it as well). Set the
number of first track sectors to 0 (for all) since dealing with something
that may be in the first track (truecrypt).

Thanks for that answer.

to reduce workload for support maybe someone else can answer this too:

1. If the harddrive is still running when i get my new drive. Should i then use rather use the "copy" function to clone disk or restore the image? Any comments on this welcome.
2. I have created Imaging jobs in IFW. Anything i have to watch out since i'm now using an ssd? Some weird bugs, thinks to have in mind while using ifw with an ssd?

Thanks!
