Is "Limit Primaries" important for routine partition work.

Post by Jim22 »

I am a new user, and want to use BootitBM to combine unallocated spaces on my hard drive. I'm using Win XP, and used Partition Magic 8 to create logical partitions, and changed and resized partitions from time to time, leaving unallocated space here and there. Pages 13 and 14 of the user manual, which provide info for new users, mentions limit primaries. I have no idea what Partition Magic does with limiting primaries, handling partition tables, etc. Should I be concerned with these topics for routine partition work?

Partition Magic 8 uses a standard MBR layout - 4 primary partitions or
3 primaries and an extended.

BIBM is the same if one *does* limit primaries and in that mode is
FULLY compatible with PM8 or any other partitioning utility that works
the same way.

If one unlimits primaries, one must not use any other utility,
operating system or anything else to create or manipulate partitions.

I prefer to unlimit primaries for various reasons.
