IFL questions

Post by Brian K »

I'd like to ask these question again to hear if anything has changed.

1. Does IFL work yet in a tablet with UEFI 32-bit Win8 and an Atom processor?

2. Does IFL GUI work yet in 64-bit Ubuntu? I know it works in 32-bit.

Thanks.

It won't boot on 32-bit UEFI systems if Secure Boot is enabled.

Yes, the KB article linked below was updated for Ubuntu/Kubuntu 13.10. It should be just a matter of adding the i386 archetecture (the command line for that is in the KB article), and then installing the addititonal shared lib packages as described in the "Ubuntu & Kubuntu 13.10" section.

Tom, I'd missed seeing the updated web page. IFL GUI works fine in 64-bit Ubuntu now. Great.

But I still can't get IFL to load in my wife's 32-bit UEFI tablet. UEFI can't be disabled. With Secure Boot Enabled I see....

Secure Boot Violation

With Secure Boot Disabled I see...

Loading vmlinuz...
Loading initrmfs.gz...
-

and there is no progression. I can use TBWinRE to restore images and TBOSDT for partitioning work in the tablet but it would be nice to be able to use Partition Work in IFL.

It's her fault, move on LOLz.

They are half price here at present and I've ordered another one. I can cope using TBWinRE and TBOSDT.

My wife's unit was a week out of warranty when the sound system failed. Speakers and headphone jack. I was pleased as Asus fixed it for free.

Glad you got the Ubuntu issue solved anyway.

For the booting problem, it looks like Grub (32-bit) is getting the 2 files loaded (since there's no error messages), but it's hanging at the point where the kernel should start runnng. I don't know if there's a problem with Linux in general on that system, or it's something in our configuration it doesn't like. Do you have a link for that system with the specs etc?

Apparently Linux is not supported on that version of the Atom processor (Z2760).
See the "Operating system support on Cloverview" section in this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atom_%28system_on_chip%29

"The initial Clover Trail platform only supported Microsoft Windows (z27x0 series)"

I know it does run on at least some of the other Atom processors, since I've seen the IFL reports, etc.
