Minor quirk noticed

Post by DrTeeth »

Just been installing several distros over the weekend and noticed something minor and strange.

As always, I load the MBR by trying to boot the empty partition (primaries unlimited). After the reboot, the same item is NOT highlighted in the boot menu like it is with established OSs. IIRC, it used to be. Using BIBM 1.20.

At first, because of this, I thought I had booted/installed to the wrong partition. This proved not to be the case.

DrT,

Do you have an OS set as Default in the Boot Menu?

No. To clarify, the behaviour is as expected when NOT installing OSs;
viz the last booted OS is highlighted.

When I first noticed this issue the other day, I thought I had
overwritten a distro - not a big deal as all is backed up.

Hope u r keeping well.

Just tried that with mine. The new Boot Item is highlighted after the reboot. I guess what you used to see.

you sure you didn't accidently set one as the default? You can email the
..bbm file and I can see if I can reproduce it ...

No Default - I would recognise the behaviour and this issue is not it.
I noticed it when rebooting to load a new Linux install - the
partition I had 'loaded' to read the MBR was not the one that was
presented for the proper booting of the same partition.

How to I copy this file so I can send it to you. I did try making the
BIBM partition visible in Win 7. I can see the partition in Computer
management, but Windows will not allow for the assigning of a drive
letter. The only action I can perform is to delete it!

Please advise.

DrT,

See page 70 in the BIBM manual.

Thanks. I have noticed exactly the same behaviour on another PC which
does not have a default OS set up.

Just installed Lubuntu, and of course, selected that OS to boot to
load the MBR. Installed the OS, rebooted and had another OS selected
instead of the one just 'booted'.

Still present in BIBM 1.23.

The same OS that was previously normally booted is selected. However,
when doing the boot-that-will-fail before an install, that OS is NOT
selected the next time.

I get what you're saying .. it's not going to the black screen (not
formatted), still on the GUI...
