Backing Up the EMBR and Boot Menu

Post by DerekG »

BootIt NT had the facility to backup the configuration details to a floppy. In the absence of this being available with BootIt BM, I would like to backup the sectors from Track Zero myself. BootIt BM appears to occupy the 8 sectors following the MBR and EMBR, but where are the boot menu configuration details. The TBU white paper on the format and operation of the EMBR does not give me any clue to the whereabouts of the Boot Menu that feeds of that information. Any help would be appreciated.

Derek,

To backup the First Track see page 11 in the TBOSDT.pdf. "Copy sectors to/from a file". You can do this from Scripting in BIBM.

The boot menu file and the other BootIt files are in the BootIt EMBRM partition. You would need to back up that partition (or the desired contents) as well as the EMBR sectors to have it all. Depending on how far you want to go with it, you might also want to back up the EMBR sectors of all other EMBR drives in the system. Note that if you have backups of the partitions this really shouldn't be necessary.
