Error when trying to update to v1.18 from v1.17

Post by chrislot »

Hi,

I am unable to update my BIBM from v1.17 to v1.18 as I keep getting the "Error: Unable to mount file system" whenever I try to do the upgrade. I get the error whether I let BIBM try to locate the EMBR BIBM partition automatically or if I manually locate it and then click the Setup button.

Please help. I have tried creating the BIBM boot media on CD/DVD and USB flash drive and same problem.

Thank you,
Chris

Chris,

Why 1.18 when 1.19 is the latest?

sounds like something is wrong with that partition ? If you try to resize
it and let it go through the first part, does it make it or say unable to
mount?

Thanks for the quick response.

When I try to resize the EMBR BIBM partition, i get the same error "unable to mount the file system".

BIBM works fine though for booting my operating systems so if the BIBM partition was corrupt, wouldnt the OS partitions not boot up correctly from the BIBM boot menu?

BrianK, I haven't upgraded to v1.19 yet. Is it a free upgrade from v1.17/1.18? I doubt it will solve the issue though...

yes, it says the i need to insert the boot media to make changes to that partition since it is in use. I know it is definitely the BIBM EMBR partition.

well it turns out reformatting my BIBM EMBR partition and reinstalling v1.17 and then upgrading to v1.18 is working now. I was afraid i would lose all my BIBM settings by reformatting the BIBM partition, but most of the settings remained. Thanks for pointing me to a possible corrupt BIBM partition. I'm still surprised it worked fine though booting my OSes even though the BIBM partition was corrupt.
