I didn't run any tests comparing the two. I doubt there would be any real difference, though.

That's interesting to know. My computer has a UEFI BIOS but I installed Win8 in MBR mode because I wanted to use BIBM and multi-boot.

From a cold start, the time from the BIOS beep to seeing the BIBM Boot Menu is 11 seconds. There is a 3 second wait in BIBM and another 12 seconds before I see Metro. Are your UEFI times much different?

Yes, more system related, I have some BIOS systems that boot extremely fast,
too fast, hard to get in the bios because waiting for the screen to show
something before it's already booting.

The main thing I like about my UEFI Windows 8 system that it really
does boot up much faster -- I can be in Windows before my other systems get
out of the BIOS screens. I would assume this is partly the BIOS and partly
Windows 8.

Brian,

On a cold boot-up it takes about 22 seconds to get to the log-in screen. I know some of that time is due to the physical drives -- it was faster when SSD-only. On a reboot it takes 10-12 seconds to reach that point. When I tested before without a log-in I could get to the desktop in about another second.

With my board, getting into the BIOS is as easy as normal (using Del). However, using the F8 boot menu key is difficult (very slim window of time where it works). What I've started doing is just using Del to bring up the BIOS and then clicking on the boot menu.

Then I guess I'm lucky. I rarely miss with F2 or F8.
