Background .pcx files no longer work

Post by Brian K »

These background images did work for the first few days with my new computer but they no longer appear on the Boot Menu screen. I've "Upgraded" BIBM from the CD but still no .pcx showing. The background file is selected in Settings.

There is no Sound in BIBM either but the computer case doesn't have a speaker.

ensure you use the short file name.

The file was called kagifour.pcx. It's the same file I've used for years in my old computer and it did work for a few days in this new computer. I tried a different file, kagi.pcx, and it doesn't work either. Weird.

Did the graphics mode change? You need to be running a mode compatible with the background image (64K or 256 colors).

Paul, that's it. The Display Settings were 1024x768x256 instead of 1024x768x64K. I must have "bumped" it. Thanks.

OT: Just out of interest, do you find the screen performance better
using 64K instead of 256 colours? During beta testing, I found 64K had
much better performance.

DrT,

I thought it was my new computer. BIBM screens would take over a second to change after a mouse click. Very sluggish. But now on 64K colours, screen changes are instantaneous. Doh!

Glad to know it wasn't me! Enjoy your new PC.

Thanks. IFW runs two to three times faster than my old computer. I have an Intel i7 3770K processor with 16 GB RAM.

I have an i7 860 (LGA1156 socket) 8GB RAM. Just installed 3 x
Seagate 2TB drives, that allow easy firmware updates. PC very usable
with these new drives when IfW working. It was not the case before.
The drives are SATA 3 so the next upgrade will support them (SATA 2
presently). I just swap my MB and CPU come upgrade time. LOL.
