Win8 install

Post by novice »

Hello,
Have an AMD system with an ssd containing windows7 and a hd with another win7 and several storage partitions.
I run bibm from a usb stick.
Attempting to install windows8 to its own partition on the hd does not work for me.
Boot ok into the windows install till i get to the partition screen wich allows choosing the installation partition.
I choose that partition, which is the one i created in bibm, click next and i get; " Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition".
In windows disk management this new partition is fully recognized. I can read and write to it.
Thinking this might be a windows8 peculiarity i tried to install windows7 with the same results.
Yes, i have SWAP checked for boot partitions on the hd. ssd is the first drive in bibm.

Should i try it by unplugging the ssd? How do i deal with the SWAP in this case?
Should i put bibm on a partition of one of the drives instead usb?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Bernard,

Try this. Remove all drives except for the one that will contain Win8. You want the drive to be HD0 for the install. Make sure the "Win8" partition is Active. Now it should work.

When you reconnect the other drives, install BIBM.

So, I did finally install Win8 to its own partition and running fine.
Did like Brian suggested and unplugged the ssd which was HD0 plus some usb connections.
That didn't work and furthermore, wasn't even able to boot into the windows install.
Kept getting "EMBR missing" message. Tried to install windows7 with the same results.
At that point I was puzzled. I've installed windows7 to different partitions on different drives many times with no problems using bing and lately bibm.
So I know the procedure well.
What made the install work was in Boot Edit checking Next Boot instead of Boot Sequence.
This is curious to me in that the bios is set to boot dvdrom first and hd's second.
Have always used Boot Sequence to boot into install of any OS.
Anyway, got it going.
Thanks Brian for your input.
