upgrading Win7 to Win8

Post by 30075 »

I have a PC running BIBM 1.10a that has Windows 7 & Ubuntu 12.04. Primaries are limited, & Win7 has the 100MB boot partition.

Is upgrading to Win8 as simple as running the upgrade from within Win7, or will that overwrite the EMBR? And if it does, will simply reinstalling BIBM fix things?

here is partinfo output:

All OSs can overwrite the MBR. OpenSuSE does it for example as well as
windows. The fix is to boot BIBM/BING from external media and
reactivate/reinstall/upgrade it. The options can change if you boot
media is writeable.

Make sure you have a good backup to your Win 7.
Yes. I made a disk from the Win 8 preview iso.
Then Booted Win 7 and ran the Win 8 install form within.
I never had to reactivate or reinstall bootitbm.

Be sure to use bootitbm ver 1.10a. During the install, every time your system
reboots look at the properties for the partition that is soon to be Windows 8.
Near the last reboot you will see a button there to disable fast boot.
Just click the button to disable in it BootIt Partition Work / Properties of the Win8 partition.

30075,

I think the best option is to unlimit primaries and install Win8 into its own primary partition. It installs very quickly.
