Partition Work Problem with IDE and Si680 ATA controller

Post by winclimber »

Hi,

Am new here and am looking forward to the Forum.

I have a problem with BootItBM (the latest version is installed).
I have a silicone image Si680 ATA controller in my PC.
This is used for still being able to use 2 older hard drives (IDE).
The works also so far great.
Now, I have created two boot partitions (1 x Win7, 1 x win XP) on HD0 with BootItBM.
This has also works, thanks for BootItBM.
Once but BooitBm is active, the IDE-HDs partitions in Windows on the Si680 controller are empty.
Work with partitions is then error (see image HD5) - and I can do nothing in partition work, it's all greyed out and a info *Errors Exist* (neart top right corner) .
The other HD0 is ok (view image HD0)

Is help possible?

Thanks Wolfgang

One possibility would be to try enabling the "PATA IRQC" option in the BIBM Settings dialog (in the Device section).

If that doesn't help, I'd suggest downloading the free partinfo utility here:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads/PARTINFO.ZIP

With partinfo, use the GUI version (partinfg.exe) while in Windows to save your partition information to a text file that you can post here.
(File -> Export to Text File).

Hi,

thanks for the reply.
I have tested with and without PATA IRQC - not working.
In the attachment are the partinfo.
HD4 (IDE) and HD5 (IDE) are on the Si680 ATA Controller.

Just as a check, did you reboot the system after enabling the "PATA IRQC" option, and then look at those 2 drives (HD4, HD5) again in Partition Work?

Are both drives still showing the "Errors exist" message?

Just to clarify, this problem first happened after installing BIBM?

Are you able to see partitions on those drives if you boot the system from removable boot media, such as an IFL boot disk?

those drives look to be all zeros - is it because it's new or something is
up with them? Is the firmware on the controller up to date and the BIOS
configured and enabled on them and drives attached properly?

I had the same hard drives unchanged at the ATA Si680 controller for over two years.
Only after installation of BIBM, they are empty.
I can create new volume (NTFS or others) in WIN 7 disk management, i can write and read on this volumes.
Alone after reboot AND active BIBM, the partitions are empty.

use undelete or use the view mbr / std mbr option then see if they stay.

No chance, I can create new volume (NTFS or others) in WIN 7 disk management, i can
write and read on this volumes.

In BIBM the view mbr / std are empty.

boot bibm from writable installation media or from the installed copy, then
choose disk scripting, run the "help copy sectors" command and copy out 63
sectors from lba 0 to some file. Then email those files to support.

for example:

copy sectors 4 0 63 hd4.bin

if you want to save the file directly to another partition, say you have
your windows partition on hd0 and it's partition 1 then you could do:

mount 0: 0 0x1
copy sectors 4 0 63 0:\hd4.bin
copy sectors 5 0 63 0:\hd5.bin
umount 0:
exit
