/trim switch

Post by Brian K »

I'm confused about TRIM. Say you have a 100 GB SSD and the OS contains 50 GB of data. You run TRIM, create an image and then restore the image. Does the image restore to the original LBAs? (I know it's a SSD) In that case there is nothing to be Trimmed after the restore. Or is there 50 GB of data to be Trimmed after the restore.

Sorry, my question was a general one. I was referring to not using the /trim switch. Does the restored partition need to be Trimmed under my circumstances in the first post?

nothing has to be trimmed. if you wanted to trim after the restore, you
can use partwork. The OS will trim as files are deleted, if it supports
it and that option is enabled. If you had areas not trimmed prior to
restore and restored without /trim, they would remain untrimmed (until file
created there then deleted presuming os support for trim).
