I have a Dahua Digital Video Recorder (HCVR7108H-S3), which is a Linux-based system. I would like to make a backup before I attempt a system and firmware update. I'm hoping to find the multi-TB of camera recordings are in a seperate partition to the system software and so I can avoid having to back that up.
The plan would be to remove the HDD from the DVR and attach it to a Windows 10 laptop (using a SATA<-> USB bridge), boot an IFL CD and be able to see and backup (and restore later if necessary) whatever partitions I find.
Disconnecting all the cameras, removing the HDD and getting it to my location will be quite some work so I would like to have an idea if it's likely to work?
Have been a happy user of IFx utilities for donkeys years backing up Windows systems but have never tried it on a linux one.
TIA
Mark

Re: Can IFL backup a Linux-based DVR?
you can always do a raw backup (entire drive with backup unused sectors
enabled) which will backup 0-n and restore 0-n

Re: Can IFL backup a Linux-based DVR?
Thanks, yes. That would mean backing up 6 TB when I'm only interested in a couple of GB, but thanks for confirming it will work.
