bootitbm/ifd shows wrong from partitition

Post by wizzleme »

Single drive Lenovo laptop, win7, c:boot, d:restore images/data, hidden:mfg recovery, bootitbm embr

image for dos under bootitbm: select restore from partition 3 d:restorefile

ok so far, then screen goes to "restore from" and the only two button options are "drive" and partition 2 which is the boot partition. If i try to deselect either drive or partition 2 they both get deselected-you cannot choose one. Well I am NOT restoring FROM the boot partition which is shown as partition 2 and shows the size in gb of the c: partition. I am restoring from a restore FILE in the D: partition 3. But image for dos does not allow that???

It is choosing the wrong partition for me to restore "from". Why is it not showing the correct partition/file on D:partition 3. I selected the proper restore file on d: but it is showing the c: partition in restore FROM, not the partition 3 d: that the file is located on. That is the one that contains the file I wish to restore TO the c: partition 2. What am i doing wrong/misinterpreting?

wizzleme,

Can you take a photo of the Partition Work screen and also the screens in IFD that are causing issues. Post them here or to a web site and we'll sort it out.

Lack of remotely descriptive identifications of the partitions makes this difficult to follow, but you want to restore the content of Partition 02 from a file on Partition 03, correct?

If not correct, I've completely misunderstood and all the following may be wrong.

Pix1 shows you correctly selecting Partition 03 as the location of the image (backup) file, I think.

Pix 2 shows you correctly selecting a backup file, I think.

Pix 3 is showing the contents of the image file and asking what part of those contents you want to restore from. I would expect you to be able to clear the check mark from Drive since you don't (at least may not) want to restore the entire drive. I would also expect clearing that to also clear the check mark from Partition 02. You should then be able to re-check Partition 02 indicating that the contents of Partition 02 are the part of the image file from which you want the restore to take place.

Based on some of what you said, I don't understand how you got to to the last picture, but if you unchecked and checked as I described (at pix3) and then clicked Next (I think it is), I'd expect that to result in the last picture. That's simply confirming that you want the current content of Partition 02 to be lost because it will be replaced by the data being restored from the image file that you selected.

What happened to brian. Spent alot of time uploading photos he requested and no reply from him.

If you read carefully my post you CANNOT deselect "drive" OR part 2 (c:boot WRONG FROM partition-error from bootitbm). If you deselect one, the other also gets deselected automatically by ifd.

Bottom line is that ifd states that I am restoring "FROM" c: part2 mbr1 when is SHOULD say restoring FROM partition mbr2 part 3 d:restore image.

This appears to be a bug in the program.

btw why are you banning me based on ip, when I am using tor, the ip changes frequently. If there is a problem, let me know.

wizzleme,

Standby. I've been away. Thanks for the photos.

You mentioned your partitions were...

>> win7, c:boot, d:restore images/data, hidden:mfg recovery, bootitbm embr

Recently you said they were...

>> c:(boot) hidden:mfg recovery D:(data)

I make them to be...

System Reserved
MBR1 (probably Win7)
MBR2 (probably Recovery or Data)
BIBM

The first partition is not Win7.

On RESTOREFROM_WRONGFROM_PIX3.jpg you have a tick in Drive. Remove that and tick MBR 1. Does it look better now?

>> Bottom line is that ifd states that I am restoring "FROM" c: part2 mbr1 when is SHOULD say restoring FROM partition mbr2 part 3 d:restore image.

Restore From describes what is in the image. There are 2 Restore From screens, as you have posted.
In Restore To you would select MBR 1

MBR 1 and MBR 2 are partitions. I'd change the labels to something more familiar.

e,

Standby. I've been away. Thanks for the photos.

<snip for brevity, my reply inline delineated by leading *

*Brian replied

I make them to be...

System Reserved
MBR1 (probably Win7)
MBR2 (probably Recovery or Data)

The first partition is not Win7.

*You're right, first is the mfg recovery partition, hidden
*MBR1 is win7 boot
*MBR2 is data containing the bootit restore is images
*last is BIBM

On RESTOREFROM_WRONGFROM_PIX3.jpg you have a tick in Drive. Remove
that and tick MBR 1. Does it look better now?

*the only way to remove that tick for "drive" (which is the entire
*drive, indicated by it's size) is to press control key to untick
*the drive button. That STILL leaves listed: "Restore From MBR1"
*the boot partition. That is what I have been saying,-I am *not
*restoring from MBR1, I am restoring TO MBR1, the win7 boot
*partition c: The program should read restore from MBR2 where the
*restore image is located (d: data/images). Why does IFD say
*restore from the wrong partition? It should say restore TO MBR1,
*not FROM MBR1. There are TWO places that say restore FROM. First
*is correct, second is in error. There is no Restore TO.

>> Bottom line is that ifd states that I am restoring "FROM" c:
part2 mbr1 when is SHOULD say restoring FROM partition mbr2 part 3
d:restore image.

Restore From describes what is in the image.

From screens, as you have posted.
In Restore To you would select MBR 1

*There is no restore TO:, there are two restore FROMS. First one is
*correct and second lists the wrong partition-MBR1 as the restore
*FROM partition, the c: MBR1 win7 boot partition. There is no place
*indicating the target partition MBR1 (c:bootwin7)

1 and MBR 2 are partitions. I'd change the labels to something
more familiar.

*I have to be very careful with this program, that is why I am
*posting.

In general.

"Restore From" takes you from selecting the drive and partition that
contains the image file, once you select the image file, you're still in
"restore from" selecting what you want to restore "from" the image. Once
that is selected, and normal restore, it goes to the "Restore To" which
shows what currently exists and you choose where you're restoring the image
(in auto restore mode, it selects it for you if it can and skips the "to",
if you say no to the target it auto selects, it goes to the "restore to"
screen as well).

wizzleme,

Regarding the first partition you said...

>> first is the mfg recovery partition, hidden

That isn't true. It is the System Reserved Partition which contains the booting files. It's nothing to do with the mfg. Keep an image backup of this partition in case the HD fails as you will need it.
