Clear Boot Sector

Post by Ed Smith »

I can only find in the manual on how to do it and all it says about what is
does is "To clear several boot sectors at the beginning of the partition".

I wanted to know just what that means.

I want to delete one of my Windows Petitions.

If on the one I delete and I check "clear boot sector", will that mess up
the boot manager. I don't want to not be able to boot the other windows
partition if I do this.

In my case should I select to clear boot sector or not ?

Thank You,
Ed.

Ed,

No it won't. When you delete a partition you remove its entry from the MBR partition table. Nothing is deleted in the partition. As the partition boot sector is still present (at the start of the partition) the deleted partition can be undeleted. If you don't plan to undelete the partition then select "clear boot sector".

Brian,

Thank you very much for the reply and now I understand what it is all about.

Happy Thanksgiving,
