Reasons To Upgrade from 2.99 to 3.02 for Win7 x64 Systems ?

Post by ml49701 »

I am running Windows 7 x64 and do not plan to upgrade to Windows 10 until all the spyware can be disabled on my systems. What features make the upgrade from 2.99 to 3.02 worth the cost ?

As TBU has not charged for any updates/upgrades since 2007, the
biggest plus is the warm feeling you get when you give them a small
amount of money for their continued good service.I could fill reams of
paper with companies that release major versions very frequently just
to milk their customer base.

Seriously, not that much on the software front, but PHYLock seems to
do its thing a LOT faster than in previous versions.

In addition to the above comment on PHYLock, the whole thing just feels faster. Is that enough to justify an upgrade? I don't know. Only the potential upgrader can decide.

For me it was mostly that the cost wasn't enough keep me from staying current. The additional speed is a nice unexpected bonus.

I'm on 3.02 and it's twice as fast as 2.99, based on some notes I've kept over the last year or so. PHYLock locks more quickly as well.

Has anyone noticed an increase in speed with IFL? I've used IFL exclusively for years because it works for me. I love the program and would happily pay for the update, but I doubt I would use it unless there is a noticeable speed increase and a continuation of the reliability that I've come to expect. Even though I've downloaded and saved all the updates through 2.99, I still actually use version 2.74. I guess I just don't feel the need for the latest version unless it is an enhancement for the backup routine that I use.

Jack,

Ver3 is faster than Ver2. Depending on which compression level you are using, it can be twice as fast as the same compression level in Ver2. You can use the Trial version to test this.

Thanks Brian -- that's definately a reason for me to try it out.

The speed that Phylock works in V3 is worth the small upgrade price alone.
Instead of staring at the screen for 3-5 minutes waiting for the image
to start, it takes approx 3-7 seconds most times.

That is exactly my experience here. I'm sure my PC has not suddenly
stopped writing to disk faster so there must have been something in
PHYLock that kept it hanging around in the 'old days', .

As for compression, I am still using Enhanced Speed A. With the new
increase in speed, are there other settings with use higher
compression? I backup at the end of the say and auto switch off so
time is not that important.

While I can't guarantee that this is (still) correct, I did some comparisons a while ago which led me to believe that /comp:10 on an IFW command line invocation provided the maximum compression.
