Boot USB flash drive on an Asus tablet

Post by Brian K »

My wife bought an Asus VivoTab TF810C which runs full Win8. Does anyone know how to make it boot a BIBM flash drive?

Progress. F8 brings up a Boot Menu with the flash drive preceded by UEFI. But Win8 boots.

you want the non-uefi flash drive - you may have to create it partitioned
mode (or ensure legacy option available). I think the asus required
partitioned type, but don't remember off the top of my head.

I've tried a BIBM and a TBWinRE flash drive. Both are partition mode. There is no legacy USB support in the BIOS and turning off Secure Boot doesn't help.

There is no non-UEFI choice in the Boot Menu.

I'll try a USB CD drive later.

The TBWinRE is UEFI compatible so if you're not seeing it, then it's
something with your BIOS not picking up the device.

The Boot Menu shows UEFI: Sandisk flash drive but it won't boot. I won't be able to try the CD drive until tomorrow.

It's a 32 bit Win8 OS on the Asus.

The USB CD drive isn't seen in the boot menu.

I think I'm in trouble. There is no way to restore an OS image.

Was the TBWinRE UFD you tried booting created on a Windows 8 x64 system?

No, it was created on the Asus tablet.

But I'm getting somewhere. I booted a 32 bit Win 8 flash drive and I can run imagew.exe. I intend to use this same flash drive to create a TBWinRE UFD. When my wife gets off the tablet.

No luck with TBWinRE but I'll keep experimenting. At least I have a workaround.
