The Windows version spreads files to different folders.
Have you moved that folder to a different device with success?

It would be great to have it all together.
Thanks
Mary

It's simple to just backup the entire folder as everything
is in that folder.

Mary,

Everything is in the one folder. You can copy that folder to a UFD, plug the UFD into another computer and Thunderbird will work just like it did from your original computer. All your email accounts and messages are there.

I've used Thunderbird Portable for two years without a problem.

Not sure how I would copy all my emails & various accounts
as currently set up in Windows. I did move to TB 24.

Also, I am using Lightning. Can that be used with portable?

Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'm using Lightning too.

There is no problem in exporting/importing your email accounts, address book and messages. I did it for two friends recently but with Outlook Express (different computer) to Thunderbird Portable.

Installed Portable to D:. Ran it. Looks a bit like initial
screen on regular TB.

Did not see an easy way to transfer the current TB files to
portable.

Shut it down again.

I did attempt to use a Mozbackup file from TB 24 and it did
not work.

If I just copy the profiles I would probably wind up having
all the defunct Comcast email addresses present. I know a
restore requires removing those files from Windows before
getting a successful restore.

Mary, I didn't know TB doesn't have a simple Export. I suggest you experiment with Copy/Paste of your Profile. Overwrite the portable ThunderbirdPortable\Data\Profile folder with your current Profile folder. You can't do any damage if it doesn't work. I just tried it from my (in use) Portable TB to a fresh TB download and everything works in the fresh download.

I may be having problems because there are 2 files in
Profiles with different numbers.

It looks like moving TB from one computer to the other has
made problems with TB itself.

I looked at Server settings and it is hollering about the
default profile being used now.

I'm not sure I understand. I gather you haven't moved any files out of your original TB.

I have switched from my old laptop to the newer one a few
times over the past couple of years.

The user name is different between the two computers and
that may be why TB came up with 2 different profiles. Both
are MB 385-585 or so large.
