Hi Group
I am running Win 7 on a fairly new Dell Box. I made a total backup of the system before something went wrong. Now I need to restore the backup and have a qustion. I am able to use the Dos boot disk and can reach the file I backedup located on a external USB hard drive. The next screen gives me three choices, each choice has a place for a check mark so, I could mark any or all of the three choices. The choices are 1. MBR0
2. Recovery
3. OS
I really need it to replace all of the file it generated and saved.
Can you offer any advice.

Hi,

The main thing to realise is that you have a full backup so it is safe
to experiment until you get a definitive answer. To restore the whole
hard disk, you need to check the boxes of ALL the partitions that you
backed up to restore them all.

Thank you for the answer (and the proverb). The backup file that I made has only one partition associated with it. Is there something I should know about how the backup is stored. You indicate that I can play around until it works and the file I made will still be availabe. Does that mean the file will not be erased? Are there some uses of TBIview that would tear up the file? Am I reading too much into what you answered?

You said that you had a total system backup, I take that to mean that
you have all partitions backed up. You further comment about having a
screen where you have selection boxes for all partitions re-enforces
that. What do you see that is your backup's equivalent of the 'what to
restore' screen that is on page 72 of the manual?

Restoring a backup does not delete nor change the backup file

Glad I could help. It was not herbal tea I was thinking of when I
wrote the 'take a herb' LOL. Gave up smoking (everything sadly) over 7
years ago. I will enjoy my ice-cold Heineken Export if I may .
