don't use SPACE key in passwords [BUG]

Post by G2covers »

i doubt anyone would do this, but just for the record (and because it is technically still a bug).

when creating a new image via IFW (v2.71) in Windows 7 i accidentally ticked 'Encrypt Image', and rather than go back i just hit the Space Bar for the password. three days later i needed to restore it and used a new 2.71 IFD boot disk. this disk was created with the 1024x768 'windowed' options.

i was certain the password was just one tap of the Space Bar but IFD just came back with "Invalid Password". after more than an hour of password guessing i noticed that when the password field reset it would show an asterisk for every attempted character except spaces. maybe it was somehow not registering them?

i tried again with my old 2.55 IFD boot disk which has the standard, lo-res DOS interface and sure enough the one-tap-of-the-space-bar password is now accepted!

the only difference - apart from the older version - is the nature of the IFD interface.

I guess this is my first reason not to upgrade yet until it has been fixed. Thanks for sharing.

Not having a space in passwords is common practice. Are you
sure it is a bug?????

sounds like he says you can't enter spaces in the password field of the GUI
version of IFD.

If you try to use a password with a space in it on almost
any commercial site, you will be refused.

Use underscore or some other symbol instead. What will be
accepted varies with the particular program/site involved.

The OP says that a space used to work with earlier versions of an IfD
disk so I would call it a bug or "an undocumented change in behaviour
by design" in MS speak.
