Restore issue

Post by DrTeeth »

Hi,

I have just tried restoring a Linux install to my hard disk. I tried
to install it to a different location that had more than enough free
space, but I could not. I was up against a message that said the
original space/location was occupied (true) or there was not enough
free space (not true).

I was using Image for Windows not a boot disk.

Is there a way to restore to a different location with enough free
space?

Further to this, I cannot use an IfD (in BIBM) or IfL boot disk
either. The original partitions' size is 22 GB in total (20 GB ext4
and a 2GB swap), I am trying to restore it to an empty space of more
than 250GB.

When you created the backup were both partitions located next to each other?

Were there any other partitions on the source drive? If not, was the backup of the disk or just the selected partitions?

Are you trying to restore the partitions one at a time? If so, is IFW reporting not enough space for each one?

Are you trying to do any resizing as part of the restore?

Does it work if you restore the partitions one at a time?

Yes it does! Could you explain what that is the case?
Would you like me to reply to the questions that you asked earlier in
case this matter may help others?

if you restore "multiple" at the same time, they try to go back to exactly
where they were backed up from.
