IFL Error Message

Post by Fred_S »

Ran Image 4 Linux (V2) on a Wind 10 (64 bit) machine and got this message:

Backup encountered read errors in Sector 128 - Ignore Errors?

I checked YES and I$L completed the image file.

I4L reported "BACKUP completed with 8 Bad Sectors encountered"

Wording may not be exact but the info is.

I stopped the IMAGE first time around and ran an ERROR check in Windows
and then after that ran the CMD window (as admin) using chkdsk /f

Windows offered to run it after the next re-start.

No info was provided so I assumed it "fixed" the errors yet running I4L
again resulted in the info above. Image finished with 8 bad sectors.

I did not use Byte for Byte Validation but did choose Validation.

Any advice would be appreciated.

your best bet to check for bad sectors is using the drive manufactures scan
utility or something like spinrite. The drive can relocate bad sectors,
once the relocation table is full and bad sectors remain, I'd waste no time
getting a new drive.

Thanks for the reply. I ran Seatools for Windows and the HDD failed the DST test.

I used the Win 10 Recovery mode and used Repair to run chkdsk /r and still get the DST fail report.

Does this mean the HDD is bad? This HDD was partitioned by me with 3 partitions (C: D: E:) I have lots of free space on the other partitions and wondering if I could just delete the C: partition, re-size the D: partiton and leave the old space from C as unallocated, them re-create C from a portion of the D partition.

This assumes the bad spots which seem to be not repairable will be unused.

Will this work? Is the DST test more than read errors?

Since the image of the C drive was made using the "Ignore" errors, can I assume the restoration of the image to the re-partitioned exisitng HDD OR to a NEW HDD will be OK?

Thanks, Fred

you'd want to get a new drive, restore your image (8 sectors of worth are
probably no good, but better then the next time which may be 16, 32, 100,
1000, etc..).
