Bootcamp "Creators Update" restore

Restoring this version of Windows and I suspect it applies to "Fall Update" too results in boot failure. The BSOD error is "winload.exe/winload.efi not found". Apple and Microsoft have acknowledge this error in the past stipulating to install Anniversary first then update to Creator. Long story short, I've never had to deal with this issue upgrading sequentially since Windows 8.1 The problem NOW is I tried to restore a "Creators Update" backup and BSOD error mentioned previously appeared. Never had a problem before restoring Bootcamp Partition(PERFECT!) but if this can not be resolved going forward I'll have to look elsewhere for a backup/restore solution.

BTW... this can be reproduced quite easily.

solospotter,

Are you using ver 3.13 software for the restore?

No Brian..... The last version I had on my "recovery flash drive" was 3.11 before all this happened. In essence I had to do a CLEAN install because the restore wiped the partition but managed to extract some crucial files(don't know if I got them all) using TBView/Mount.

Is 3.13 suppose to resolve this issue? I rather not have to go through the whole clean install routine again. It seems there should be some other parameter that needs to be checked other than " GPT Hidden from OS".

solospotter,

I was doing frequent restores on a test computer with 3.11 and saw a few BSOD. Restoring the same images (that produced BSOD) with 3.12/3.13 was successful. I wasn't using Bootcamp.

OK, well maybe I should wait to see some feedback from other Bootcamp users that have tried restoring with 3.12/3.13...

Thanks for your input.

now that you have brought the subject up, have you done a whole drive
image and restore, or just the bootcamp partition?

I have made whole drive images, but was never convinced that
(no matter what I did) a restore would be successful; consequently have
never tried it.

Alan,
I did a restore of my Win 10 a few months ago using IFL (faster 4 me).
Using F9 on my HP I can boot from an SD card or USB stick.
The image restored was from IFW. Don't remember versions.
Have done many restores over the years, too.

Yes, I always restore with IFL, BUT
with Bootcamp you are mixing two different worlds in OS's.
Apple and Windows (7, 8, 10, whatever), on a piece of hardware made by
Apple.

core storage in apple os should be disabled and yes, you need "GPT Hidden
from OS".

Hey Alan,
No, I have never had a need to do a "whole disk" backup/restore. I have always used Timemachine(very reliable) on the OS X side and IFW for the Bootcamp partition side. Using these two for their respective jobs cuts down on backup/restore times significantly. Like I said before, IFW has worked flawlessly till now.
