IFL MakeDisk Defaults not in Partition Work

I'm using Partition Work 1.35c included with IFL 3.05, x64 version, on
my Surface Pro 4.

Although I specified 'align partitions on 1MiB boundaries' and
'completion alarm' when running IFL MakeDisk, these parameters are not
carried over to the included Partition Work app.

I've just loaded IFL and can see the above settings ticked in IFL but
not in Partition Work.

Incidentally, the completion alarm doesn't work on my SP4, either.

When you build using the Traditional - Custom option you can specify INI file settings for Partition Work (BIBM). Enter them in the "Any additional options..." fields on the step where you enter the BIBM key. For example, to set 1MiB alignment, you would enter: GlobalGeoAlign2K=1

If you have a BOOTITBM.INI file already configured you can place it into the IFL build folder (with makedisk.exe) and select to include it when creating the custom build. Make sure your BIBM license is included in the file since you won't be prompted for them. If you don't want to look up the options, an easy way to get the file configured is to run Partition Work in IFL and set the options how you want. Then copy out the BOOTITBM.INI file.

TAC109,

For my information, does the standard IFL version boot in your Surface Pro 4?

Brian,

At the time, I was using v2.99 and couldn't get the SP4 to boot IFL from a
USB stick.

I then researched the Terabyte forums and found a post which said to use
the x64 version. So I upgraded my systems to 3.05 and tried IFL 3.05 x64
and it worked.

The SP4 has to be booted from a dedicated stick; I haven't found a way of
combining many ISOs on the one stick like I had set up for use with my
other computers. I have 2 USB sticks for the SP4; one with IFL and the
other with a TBWinPE generated system.

Tom, thanks for the info on 64-bit IFL.

I don't know whether this is of interest but with flash drives I create an entire drive image of the UFD with IFW. Then I use the UFD for something else. So I have many .TBI of IFL, TBWinRE, TBwinPE, Linux and other imaging software. It's much faster to restore the image to a UFD than to create a specific UFD from scratch.

Looking at the TBWinPE documentation, I can't find anything on how to
preset any IFW options.

The 'Align on 1MiB boundaries' is quite important for SSD disks and
I'd like to preset this on my TBWinPE USB stick. (I recently had a bad
experience shrinking SSD partitions when this option was not set and
I'd rather avoid this kind of problem in the future.)

Then the problem becomes 'What's currently on this stick?'.

As the SP4 is so restricted in what it will boot from a stick, having
2 labeled USB flash drives is not such a burden.

By default, the ifw.ini file that's in the IFW installation folder is included so anything set in there is set in the build. Otherwise, you can place a custom ifw.ini file into the TBWinPE build folder (same folder as TBWinPE.exe) and it will be used instead. If you're using TBWinPE/RE Builder to create the build you can also place a custom ifw.ini into the "config" folder and it will be used, overriding the other two locations.
