Updating customized USB boot drive for IFL V3

Post by timg11 »

I have previously used MAKEDISK and included an IFL.INI including the following lines (with my actual product V3 product key that looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX):

[License]
ProductKey=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

The current V3 manual for ifl_en_manual.pdf also shows

[License]
ProductKey=nnnn-nnnn-nnnn

on page 99.

However, when I run the bootable drive, IFL does not run and requests the licensing information.

What did I miss? I'm wondering if this part of the manual was not updated, since the product key is the old IFL format. The Product Update download pages now shows the same key for all V3 products, which is of the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

v3 requires both the name and key.

I tried this:

[License]
Name=My Name
ProductKey=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

Still getting the request for key when I boot the IFL from USB.

Is any punctuation (like quotes) required?

This is in ifl.ini, which is in the same directory as makedisk.exe.

When I run Makedisk, I check the "ifl.ini from local directory" option.

(also, with makedisk V3, I notice a 15-30 second "preparing" phase before it asks to overwrite the drive. V2 started immediately. What is different?)

I booted into IFL again, and manually entered the name.
Then I looked at the ifl.ini from the terminal.
It looks like this:

[License]
User=My Name
Name=My Name
ProductKey=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

So I modified my makedisk ifl.ini to look the same. That seems to do the trick - IFL now runs.
