Restoring a IFW image of Win 7 physical machine to Virtual

Post by timg11 »

I have previously used this KB <http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=303> to restore an IFW image to a VMDK, but that was with a Windows XP image. Now I'm trying to do it with Windows 7, and it is not working.

After restoring the VMDK into VirtualBox, the machine starts to boot, shows the Windows animated logo, and then gets a BSOD 0x0000007B. (INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE)

I tried Windows system recovery repair process which fails.

I was able to boot to BIBM in the virtual environment into partition work.
The virtual HD is drive 0 BIOS HD - 174 GiB
The partitions are:
----- 8 MiB Free Space
Win7-C 164972 MiB NTFS/...
------- 13602 Mib Free Space

On the source machine it looks the same, except the 8 MiB partition is labeled BOOTIT EMBR
The source system does not boot through BootIt or BIBM, but I may have had it installed previously.

Is there any additional information available on virtualizing Windows 7? Clearly it is a bit different than XP.
I also reviewed the video "Create a VMWare Workstation Machine from a Physical Machine", but it is also for XP.

The storage controller drivers are incorrect. You can use the TBOSDT COPYP2V script. It will configure it with the correct drivers along with other options.
