I've read other posts about BitLocker, Windows 10, Image for Linux, and external USB hard drives as backup destinations, but none seem relevant.

Windows 10 is installed on an older ThinkPad laptop that has a Lenovo recovery partition. Windows 10 is the only operating system present. I am not using BIBM.

I have enabled TPM 1.2 and encrypted the entire C: partition with BitLocker. There are no BIOS passwords or extra PIN/key requirements enabled for BitLocker. Just login with Windows and go.

I perform full image backups by booting from a USB drive containing IFL and backing up to an external USB hard drive. I do not encrypt the backups themselves.

Questions:

1. Can TFL back up the C: partition?
2. Are the contents of the image file encrypted?

My goal is to somehow end up with an encrypted image file. Just not sure how to get from A to Z with as little complexity as possible.

If you don't use an environment that decrypts it, you'll be getting a large
sector by sector backup of the raw encrypted data. On the other hand if
you're in that environment and backup using a path that is decrypted, you
can do a data only backup, you can still encrypt that using the encryption
option when creating a backup. Under Windows using VSS or the Read from
Volume option then it will be unencrypted for data only. Under IFL it
will be encrypted unless you use the dislocker utility and backup through
that device.
