Why would I want to create/use one of these in preference to an IfL or
IfD boot disc?

I really like the IFW PE as it runs a restore about 20% faster than IFD or IFL in my computers. But your hardware may give a different result. I've installed the TeraByte PE to my HD and use it to do auto restores with IFW.
