I've removed the version number from the zip file name, so new
versions won't require a different URL. This will make it easier to
set up the external links page.

I'll still post updates to the forum, if that's ok.

Cheers

Shame. It drives me nuts when file versions are not included in file
names as I have to add them to keep track of what I have downloaded
LOL.

Yes, me too, but I don't see any other easy way to allow TB to have an
unchanging link on their third-party page. TinyURL, etc don't allow
you to change what's pointed to, but keep the same short name.

Any ideas?

Yes. Provide a link to a folder and place the version-named files
there. Let the user decide which version to download. If you do not
like that idea, just make sure that one file, the latest, is in the
folder. The download link does not have to specify the file itself.

I have just tested this with MediaFire (best free hoster IMHO) and
cannot see any down side.

Thanks for taking the trouble to test MediaFire. The only downside I
can see is that a free account can be deleted if there is no activity
over a period of time.

As there has been no feedback from anyone about using the package so
far, I don't think it is worth spending any more time on this topic.
If the zip file is opened, one of the embedded file names will give
the version number (currently the read_me file).

Thanks again for your comments.

I will be happy to host the file for you if you don't have any web
space.

Go to 4-uk-gdps.com and use the link (para 5) to send an email to the
admin (cough, that's me). I have several domains under which I can
host the file(s).

I appreciate the offer, but I'll just stick with my dropbox account
for now.

Tom,

I've made several attempts to use the script and only yesterday did I get it working. Maybe others have had similar problems. It is obvious to you how it works but it wasn't so obvious to me.

This is meant in a constructive way.

Thanks for your message, Brian.

Could you let me know where you had problems, so I can improve the
documentation and/or code where necessary?

Having worked on it closely for a while, I suffer from being too
intimately attached!

Your feedback would be welcome.

Tom,

I can be thick at times and it all does make sense now. But I had trouble with lines like this ..

(set dat=Q:\)

I know it is explained in the preceding text but the parentheses ( ) confused me. I initially thought I should leave ( ) alone. I think if the line was..

set dat=Q:\

then I would have succeeded on the first attempt. Otherwise it works fine. Feedback from others would be helpful.
