Windows 10 Pro backup

Post by tbifan39 »

I upgraded my windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. I have already backed up the C partition with Windows 10 on it. I backed up the entire drive (All Partitions) several months ago when I bought the system. I have been making regular backups of just the C partition. Now since I have upgraded to Windows 10, do I need to backup the EFI or the GPT partition as well? I assume those partitions have not changed, but I am not sure. Thanks.

It's possible some of the other partitions may have changed (at the very least, the data on several most likely has). Personally, I would make a new backup of the entire drive, especially since the other partitions are usually quite small.

I would be very interested in how you are doing this now. I ordered a new machine with win10/uefi GPT. I want to do exactly what you are doing. Are you using IFLinux? If so what options did you use in MAKEDISK for making a boot USB Stick? Did you use the UEFI partition option?

thanks........

I'm thus far not experienced using IFL for Win10/UEFI but if its suggested to backup the entire drive couldn't that take 12 hours more or less depending on your HD size? For instance if you have a 1TB drive with Win10 on it as well as say 5 partitons that seems like an all night process.
