Win7 partition infected by virus

Today I found that my Win 7 partition was infected by a virus. I rebooted to my XP partition via BING and need to clean my Win 7 partition. Do you folks have any recommendations on how I can do that? Thanks for any help you can provide.

wmawoodjr,

Do you have a clean Win7 image you can restore?

Try booting your Win 7 into safe mode and do a system restore to a
virus-free time. This is a very successful and oft missed step. It is
for this sole purpose that I do not disable system restore even though
I backup frequently.

Then, it would be a good time to start to backup frequently and review
your anti-virus strategy.

Please let me know how you get on. If you cannot boot your win 7
partition I can help you get your data off if you need it.

what's wrong with at least attempting to downloadable a bootable rescue
file, from say Kapersky. You have all the tools with a good XP
partition-internet availability, a way to burn an ISO file to a CD
(presumably, but if not, get one from someone else), and then boot with
it to see what it can find, and clean.

There are also at least four other AV vendors with free downloads.

Good suggestion.

I know Trend Micro's Housecall is a good one. It is not
Linux-based.

Last time I tried Kaspersky they used Linux and it was
harder to tell what I needed to do.

Mary, AFAIK Housecall has to be run from within Windows - not always
possible with a virus or two.

Hi,

Portable Apps has a couple of virus scanners and a spyware app that you can install onto a USB stick and run from there.

System restore (whistles). Dead easy and has saved my ass on many
occasions; plus it is easy.
