Can I reverse Restore ?

Post by Patosan »

From the BING desktop I chose Restore, and have accidentally lost all of my HDD data. I wanted to copy an image into a certain partition ... guess I should've used image from Work with Partitions. I don't remember ever doing a Create so I'm guessing a kind of restore point is saved by BING. If so is it possible to undo my huge blunder by rebooting and using Restore AGAIN ?

you mean restored an old backup of the first track? If so, you can't undo
it, you'd have to ether restore a more up to date version if you had one, or
just delete everything (without any wipe or clear options) and then use
undelete.

I didn't know I had a backup ... so I don't have a more recent backup.
So I must delete EVERYTHING ... so the HDD is empty ... even EMBR partition ?
Then use undelete.

at least whichever ones are incorrect. You can use properties to see if it
sees the partition as formatted and if the ending lba is proper (if there is
a warning, you can change the end lba by entering partition work while
holding down the left shift key and change it to match the warning).

I deleted everything except the EMBR then used Undelete in Partition Work ... the partitions are back as they were ... yipee. After resume however windows doesn't see the partitions, it says ALL is unallocated, except for the EMBR. I then updated BING to the latest ver 1.87 but windows still only sees unallocated space in front of the EMBR. I think (hope) we are close, what should I do next ?

Some extra info :
This has happened on my HDD which is HD0 and I believe is still the boot disk.
HD0 now shows the desired partitions but View MBR shows only the BootIt EMBRM.
HD0 doesn't have Undo EMBR raised (as option).
HD1 (new ssd) has the XP ver which is being powered up.
HD1 does have Undo EMBR raised
HD1 View MBR shows the XP partition only even though I copied a partition from HD0, prior to the delete and undelete.

You say Windows doesn't see the partitions. How are you booting Windows? Via Bing? If so, does the Bing boot item contain the partitions that Windows is not seeing?

You'll need to "change the disk" type to "MBR" if you're not using BootIt to
boot the system. Otherwise, for temp access, you could use view mbr to fill
in the partitions to show in the MBR. If you are using BootIt and just the
one shows, adjust your boot items to include the partition or go in to
settings and check the box to limit primaries.

I have been using BING for booting since 2006, so I tried your tip of "limit Primaries".
It worked ... the MBR shows all the partitions and windows sees evrything.
YAHOOOO !!! What a relief !

I would like to have been able to enter the partition info into the MBR, but I have no idea how to read it or adjust the entries. Is there somewhere I can access detailed info on this ?

After my previous post and wonderful support I was thinking I would buy BareMetal, if only as a sign of appreciation. Once again your support has helped me outof trouble, so I'll definitely buy BM. I now realize that any images I have from BING can'T be used in BM, so Guess I'll have to make a few new BM images.

Or just keep a CD, USB stick, or whatever to boot Bing from whenever you need to use an existing image made with Bing.
