Error 1962: No operating system found...

Post by emboysos »

I attempted to install BING v1.83 on my new Windows 8 64bit Lenovo desktop computer and after several failed install attempts I get the Error 1962: No operating system found... " The computer's BIOS no longer sees the HDD and it doesn't boot. What can I do to get my computer to boot agai (keeping my existing data and programs)?

EDIT - It was BING v1.85a that I used (it's the only CD I can find of BING)

First BING is old and no longer supported. See if the Image for Linux
(it does not use the BIOS) program can access the disk.

Without more technical specifications I can only guess at what has
gone on.

One thing I found on my own computer, is if I have USB set before hard
drive, if there is a USB stick there, I get that message.

So make sure you don't have USB/SD inserted when booting.

The computer is new with Win8 and I failed to read the warning about disabling "Fast Start". While trying to install BING, my computer went into hibernation. I think that this is when the problem first appeared. I was wondering if I install BootItBM, the problem might be resolved. The BING install failed because there was NO room on the HDD to install it.

If it didn't install, it didn't install - you can boot and cancel setup to
go to partition work then click undo embr on each drive, then view mbr,
ensure the correct partition is set active.

you could try uninstalling (if the media you installed from was writable
there is a backup of the first track) .. but in general that doesn't support
or know about GPT. There is a backup of the gpt data... but you may be able
to use BIBM to undelete if needed.

BIBM does a better job on 64 bit systems than BING.
Maybe it is time to upgrade? I know I did.
