Windows 8 - Brand New PC - Unable to install/Setup BootIT

Hello,

I've been using BootIT with other operating systems and machines for some time now and haven't experienced problems like this before. I just got a new Dell PC with Windows 8 and went to install BootIT Bare Metal to image and then install more OS in other partitions.

After some playing with the BIOS, switching off UEFI Mode and using Legacy Mode instead. I could boot from a usb device, for some reason BootIT refuses to install and will not let me manually install the program and its own partition. The hard drive is 2TB in size, I've tried making specific BootIT partitions but the set-up button is always greyed out.
I have resized the 1.8TB partition containing Windows 8. I have also switched off the special fast boot mode for Win 8. I made a few BootIT OS partitions of various sizes and nothing appears to allow BootIT to install. I tried MBR and then EMBR mode neither helped. At one point Win 8 was refused to Boot any more after messing with the boot BIOS settings it decided to run again, very odd.
Looking at the partitions via BootIT in maintenance mode everything appears to be fine. Windows 8 is running now and i'm worried about messing with BootIT again.

The machine is a Dell XPS 8500

Any suggestions ?

Thanks.

You can't currently install BootIt on a GPT drive, you'd have to use it from
your boot disk.

Yuck, I'd rather use MBR disks. So that means on a GPT drive I cannot
get a boot menu?

Can you install BootIt to another HD and use it to boot an EFI OS on the GPT drive?

no, it boots totally different and requires different support/environment.
if booted booted under uefi then it could do something...

Hi,

Sorry to jump in...

Per my other thread, on my new Toshiba C855 laptop, I disabled UEFI and secure boot in BIOS, then I booted to a BING CD. When I got into partition work, there was one large partition that took the entire 500GB drive. I used BING to delete that partition, and then created a couple of partitions, and installed WIn7 and Win8.

Doesn't a drive that has GPT partitions on it only mean that it has GPT partitions, and if those partitions are all deleted, and then an EMBR added, then the drive is like a "normal" drive that BING can then handle?

Or did I just get lucky??

Jim

If there is no GPT then depending on if the BIOS will look to the MBR - most
of the motherboards have done that for quite a while, but some of these new
name brand systems can't auto determine the mode, you have to either have
UEFI off or on.
