Unfortunately, don't get too excited. You won't notice the difference with SATA III and HDs. Even with SSDs, SATA III is only marginally faster in real life.

DrT,

Having your OS on a SSD is the "fastest" upgrade you can make to your computer. It leaves having extra RAM and new HDs for dead. On my old computer I copied OSs from the HD to the new SSD. I was then able to compare performance between the SSD OS and the HD OS. Chalk and cheese. My old computer has a SATA II motherboard.

They are not big enough or good enough value for me yet. Also, most
of what I do is not limited by HD speed. If I get one, I might be
spoilt and want more than one.

I disagree. I had about 10 OS on a 120 GB SSD and they are just over $100 now. Your OS will load in a third to a half of the time and apps will open much faster. Well worth having one.

Use more Xylocaine and buy one.

That's a plan ;-). Thanks for your recommendation...I'll look into it
when I replace this M/B + CPU. The integrated cards (network, sound
etc) have been dying one by one. Luckily PCI/PCI-E cards are dirt
cheap. Sadly, not many (if any) LGA1156 MBs left for sale.
