Installing Bootit BM on new HP W10 laptop

Post by machare »

I have purchased an HP Envy 13 laptop which comes with a 500MB SSD and Windows 10 Home 64bit. It is new and has UEFI.

I would like to install Bootit Bare Metal so that I can boot various copies of Windows 10 32bit as well as the original HP 64bit version if I can keep it.

The SSD was split into 5 partitions:

EFI System Partition 260 MiB FAT-32
Microsoft Reserved partition 128 MiB GPT Entry
Windows Partition 50,000 MiB HPFS/NTFS (I reduced the size)
WINRE 735 MiB HPFS/NTFS
RECOVERY 15667 MiB HPFS/NTFS

I would like to follow the Terabyte instructions 'How to Remove the Windows "System Reserved" Partition', but it has occured to me that this could be either the EFI System partition or the Microsoft Reserved partition.
Which is it?

Further, does the 'GPT Entry' by the Microsoft Reserved partiton indicate that the disk uses GPT and therefore these instructions don't apply?

Getting the laptop to boot from a Bare Metal USB stick has been enough of a challenge. I am having to use the 'Standard VGA - 16 Colors' Video Mode which is very slow. The latop has a Skylake i7, and I assume matching chipset.

Thank you for your reply. I followed those instructions, but at the end the Laptop would not boot Windows.
The Windows 10 stick I have would not repair the startup.
So I installed Booit BM and was able to use that to boot the Windows partition.:-)
I now have a later version of Bootit (1.31f) and the 64K Colors Video Mode now works with my hardware.
