5 partitions booted fine, added 4 more - 5 fail and 4 ok!

hi - I originally had 5 partitions that all worked fine (plus BIBM has it's own partition):
xp-32
vistat-32/64
win7-32/64

All of those worked great, now added:
win8-32/64
win8.1-32/64

Now the 4 win8 partitions work fine, but none of the previous ones run. They begin what looks like a normal boot, then fail and the whole system reboots. Is there something obvious going on?

It's possible that it was originally BING and that I switched it to BIBM.

thx for any help!

start tapping f8 as soon as you boot the item and choose the option to
disable automatic restart to see what it says.

double check your boot items.

use bcdedit in partition work to see what it points to.

working with the win7-32, I tried several times tapping F8, but can't seem to get it to stop to see the error.

Looked at bcdedit and it is pointing at the Windows 7 partition. I see the windows logo like it's booting for a few seconds b4 it crashes. Seems like the win8 install clobbered something. I'm going to try and punch in old win7 image that I started with. I have a lot of incremental back-ups just for this purpose. If you have any other suggestions, I'm open to them.

thx

Out of interest, did you disable Win8 Fast Startup?

No OS can see other OS?

Actually, I forgot to disable Win8 Fast Startup. I thought the only reason to do that is to avoid win8 corruption, but even though I forgot, I had no problems, so I left it default. I assumed that maybe some changes were made to fix that problem.

Could not having disabled Win8 Fast Startup corrupted the other OSs?

If this did corrupt hidden system files, is there a way to recover them?

latest: I did disable Win8 Fast Startup on the win8's, put a new OS from scratch on win7-32, and those 3 are mingling well together.

I'm hoping there's a way to restore the other OS's without doing a fresh install.

thx

Which 3?

When you boot an OS can it see other OS partitions?

No. It only causes corruption with common data partitions if they are
changed by another OS before booting into Win 8 again.

Sorry if I harshed your mellow Dr. Teeth - a short recap:

I started with 5 bootable windows partitions that worked great (but no win8 included). Did a multitude of updates on each of those original 5. Everything ok. Then I added the win8 and win8.1,32 and 64 bit, but did not disable fast boot on any of them. I could no longer boot on any of the previous 5. I think win8 clobbered something that made the original 5 un-bootable. This is alluded to in the sticky about win8.

The only question that I still have is whether it's possible to recover the original 5.(I actually disabled fast boot on the win8's and did a fresh in stall on one of the 5, and it reboots fine now.)

have you tapped f8, disable automatic restart to see what BSOD you're
getting? and/or trying chkdsk /p on your partitions from a recovery
console?

yes - I tried many times doing F8 and couldn't get it to stop. I tried once more and got it! I must not have starting tapping soon enough. after "resume":

stop: 0x0000007B (0x80786B58, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
