Is it possible to turn off the fast start feature of Win 10 via BIBM
1.29? Had a quick look but could not find it.

DrT,

Fast Startup is enabled by default in Win10 and BIBM can disable it. Even with a UEFI Win10.

It's surprising they haven't turned it off by default. Old MS wouldn't
have done something like have a potentially destructive option enabled by
default. They were pretty good at understanding the standards, issues, and
not breaking things. After all, it's standards and 3rd parties that really
built MS. It may be they are hiring a generation coming over from open
source where things are done very ad-hoc and with a narrow focus without
fully understanding what they may be breaking or issue they may be causing.

Let's hope the F8 / Safe Mode / Etc.. comes back by default as well. For
non-keyboard systems, using a button or touching a spot or back and forth
swiping on boot could be used. They can still use the GUI since text mode
doesn't exist for UEFI and the move away from VGA/SVGA also gets rid of text
mode.

It's a shame that they have not fixed these things. especially as Win
10 looks and behaves quite nicely. They are *still* reducing the
number of interface options presented to their customers and I hate
them for that.

Happy New Year to all at TBU and on the forum.

Can somebody please confirm if switching off Fast Startup via BIBM
really does that? How can I check it has here? I am getting many
chkdsks on boot for a common data partition here since installing Win
10 and switching off Fast Boot via BIBM has not affected its
incidence.

DrT,

1) Open Control Panel.
2) Choose Hardware and Sound -> Power Options
3) Click on "Choose what the power button does" on left.
4) Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
5) Confirm there is no check mark in the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under Shutdown settings

Thanks Brian. On that basis, BIBM does NOT turn off Fastboot in Win 10
Preview edition. The check mark is STILL present even though Fastboot
has been disabled in BIBM - in both of my Win 10 installs.

Chkdsk runs on every common edition even if nothing has been changed.

Until this issue is confirmed as fixed by TBU, I'd advise turning off
fastboot by following Brian K's instructions. Another option would be
to hide all other partitions from Win 10.

DrT,

That's strange because the tick was absent after I used BIBM to disable Fast Startup.

DrT,

I tried it again. Win10 was installed and there was a check mark in "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under Shutdown settings. A BIBM CD was used to Disable Fast Startup. In Windows there was now no check mark in "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under Shutdown settings.

Why do we differ? Weird.
