Make sure each boot item has the Data partition loaded into the MBR. For each one you should have the appropriate Windows partition and the Data partition loaded.

Hi, I just checked and the MBR for each partition and it shows the 'Data' partition. However, it doesn't appear in Windows? I have ascertained this from the 'View MBR' - 'Work with Partitions' Options in BM. Your software has served me well over the years, so I'm more than happy to Iron this problem out If I can help.

For the issue being discussed, you shouldn't be looking in either 'View MBR' or 'Work with Partitions'.

You should be looking in the Boot Menu. Since I'm in Windows right now, I can't see a BIBM screen, but I think you want 'Boot Edit' on the BIBM desktop.

Hi Bob! Welcome aboard!
I'm looking at the 'Boot edit' screen as I type - It shows the inaccessible (Data) partition as item 1 on HD 0 but that partition doesn't reveal itself in Windows?

Is the Data partition a normal NTFS partition (BIBM would show it as HPFS/NTFS)?

Do a simulated boot and then check the MBR to see if it's properly loaded. To do this, hold down the Shift key while clicking the Boot button on the Boot Menu (you'll hear a beep if the system speaker works). Then go to Partition Work click View MBR to look at the partition table.

Do you have IFW installed in Windows? If so, does IFW show the Data partition?

See http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=517 - once you
include in the boot item, if windows has no drive letter then you assign one
via "disk management" in Windows.

Also it's important that you disable fast startup in Windows 8. See

Hi Paul.
First - The Data partition is (HPFS/NTFS)
I carried out your 'Simulated' boot instruction and the 'Invisible' so called 'Data' partition was clearly visible in the 'Work with Partitions' MBR screen as was the O/S partition and BootIt EMBRM.

I have accessed Disk Management in both O/S partitions and the missing Data partition is designated as D: and is deemed to be a Healthy NTFS Primary partition - this is an improvement on the situation at the outset (see previous post) before I deleted the drive and copied and pasted the original copy. At that point the partition was 'Unallocated.

I have read the http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=575 link and It doesn't appear to relate to my situation as described above? I have also disabled the fast start up in Windows 8 but It has not made any difference to the missing partition.

I have just upgraded to Image for Windows 2.88 and loaded it on to one of the partitions and the missing Data partition is visible within the program. - if that helps?
I hope this information helps to narrow down the problem.
Many thanks,
Ger

So Windows seems to be seeing the partition as D:. What is the problem? Where is it the partition "invisible"?

Since the partition is now showing in Disk Management and is assigned a letter, Windows does see it. Does it show up with the correct size?

Is it not showing in Explorer or elsewhere?

Is it accessible from the Command Prompt?

Have you tried reformatting it in Windows (right-click on it in Disk Management)?

Hi to Bob and Paul, thanks for your replies. Firstly I should now tell you that the problem is resolved but quite how it happened is a mystery (Well to me at least!). For the sake of completeness, I will answer the questions arising and then say what I did.
I never tried to access D: from the command prompt and it was missing from the Explorer window. As was stated above, It was present in Disk management and it was correctly sized (In both O/S partitions). I didn't try to reformat it as it was showing as being a healthy NTFS Primary partition so It thought it best to leave well alone.

When Paul asked if I had Image for Widows, I remembered I purchased a copy a couple of years back though I rarely used it. I realised that I was entitled to an upgrade so I download the latest version and loaded it on to one of the O/S partitions, ran it just to see If it could see the missing partition, which it did. Basically, I loaded it thinking Paul might want me to try something. I didn't do anything else, but later I just happened to open the Explorer window and the missing partition was there and accessible - I immediately rebooted in to the other O/S partition and it was working there too, though I hadn't loaded IFW on that system. It was definitely missing before I loaded IFW.
So, if you can make any sense of that, I for one would be interested to here it!

any thoughts?
Thanks for all your help
Ger.
