moving from Intel RAID (Z87) to Samsung 840 PRO SSD

i built a smoking machine & crippled it by putting everything on an Intel firmware-based RAID1. It really does impact performance. So I bought an SSD, & I want to put my Windows 8.1 installation on it.

anyone have any recommendations on how to do this -- using IfW from a TBWinPE USB drive, or using Samsung's Data Migration Tool? I know getting the current firmware before doing anything is critical. Does going the TBWinPE route result in the proper TRIM settings & alignment? I searched the IfW PDF & only found a few TRIM mentions pertaining to disabling it during backups. And is IfW still my best bet for backups with an SSD? I realize who I'm asking, but I'm just not familiar enough with SSDs to know if backups of them are best handled differently.

thanks

30075,

Avoid Samsung's Data Migration Tool. I've seen some nasty threads concerning its use. You won't have any problems with IFW.

What sizes are the HD and SSD? MBR or UEFI?

thanks, HD is 2TB, but this is a fairly new installation & there's not much on it. Most of my data I haven't moved to it yet, and I'll probably wipe the hard drives & store it there. The SSD is 256GB, more than enough. It is UEFI.

I just noticed this is in the wrong forum, can a moderator move it?
