Undelete

Post by jimscafe »

I just want to say THANK YOU!!

I was installing a Linux os when it automatically overwrote the mbr without asking where to install grub.

The recover Bootit disc only provided the option to install, not to reset (usually it just reinstalls Bootit).

I ended up with no items in the menu and hardly any partitions marked.

Clicking on an empty partition and then undelete recovered all my partitions! Wonderful.

I need to recreate the menus again, but that is a small price to pay.

Stay clear of Koroa 18, the installation software is complete rubbish.

The problem is that there are issues installing Grub 2 in the Linux
partition - so they say - even though other distros do it and they
used to. The way to install GRUB to the partition with Fedora and
derived installs is to NOT install it via the install program and to
install grub manually with the '--force' parameter. FWIW, I also wiped
the MBR whilst trying Fedora 18 too.
