Introduction to the Technician License

TeraByte Unlimited offers a special type of license, known as the Technician License, for its Image products (Image for DOS/Linux/Windows) and for BootIt NG.  The purpose of the Technician License is to enable computer technicians to create and store temporary backups prior to performing work on client computers.  If a problem occurs from performing the work that necessitates a restore, the technician may restore from the applicable image(s).

The Technician License is not an alternative to the standard Full-Use License; rather, it is an add-on to it.  That is, the Full-Use License and the Technician License are purchased separately, and each Technician License must have a corresponding Full-Use License in order to be valid.  Also, each technician using the applicable software and/or storing image files on client computers must be covered by his or her own Technician License.

The Technician License does not allow for client image backups to be created and stored beyond 10 days, regardless of where those image files are stored.  Please see the section below for more information.

Additional Rights Granted by the Technician License

The standard Full-Use License restricts software usage and image storage to those computers owned by the license holder.  The Technician License grants the following additional rights:

• The licensed product(s) may be used temporarily on client computers.  That is, the software may be installed and used while a technician is continuously on-site performing work for the applicable client, but must be removed at the conclusion of that work.
  
  
• Image backups of client computer disks may be stored for up to 10 days per month.

Retaining Images of Client Systems

If your intent is to create and retain images of client system for purposes of restoring beyond 10 days, then each system needs to be covered by a normal full license. You have two basic options:

1. Purchase licenses for the customer using the ship-to fields or have the customer purchase the license. This licenses the software to the customer and the software is provided to the customer. You or the customer can use it on their systems. The advantage is the customer can continue to use the software to backup on an ongoing basis and no tech license is required.
   
   If you want to act as a reseller to the customer then you can either sell them using the affliate program (you earn 30% of each sale) or a RegNow 10% reseller discount coupon can be provided to you. 2. Purchase a tech license for any techs that will be using the software and full use licenses for each system you backup and retain images for. You cannot provide the customer any software or images that contain the software. The advantage is that you can purchase in bulk to get the quantity discounts.
